Bee Beard Shave

Posted by Magda (Vancouver, Canada) on 6 October 2008 in People & Portrait.

Some of you asked me how they get the bees off....
Apparently the main sensations you feel as the bearded person (apart from fear!) are heat (from the vibration of the bees), prickles (from their feet) and tickling (from their wings)...i.e. it's hot, it prickles, and it tickles.

Thank you so much for taking your time to visit and comment on my photographs. It is greatly appreciated! :)

wouaaaaaaaaaa, dangerous shot !

6 Oct 2008 8:58am

@Veronelle: I was safe! :) I was shooting through a glass window during a tour... Anyone could go through this experience. This person was one of the brave tourists!

Marion from Liberty Township, United States

I can hardly look at this picture without turning around to make sure there is nothing buzzing beside me - great shot! I am not sure I would have had the courage to take this picture :)

EEEEWWWWW!!!! It's the creepy guy with all the bees again. As much as I love photographing insects, I prefer them one at a time instead of in mass quantities like this. Great image, though. It definitely got my attention!

@willow: You made me laugh, Willow! I freak out around any buzzing bug but after learning a bit more about bees (during the tour) I feel a bit different about them. It was super interesting.... and fun to watch. :)
Thanks for visiting!

Bill from Belton, United States

I can see me taking the picture but I don't think I would ever be able to convince someone to pose ala bees!!!
Great shot....

@Bill: You would be surprised how many volunteers they had during the tour! :)

Nice beard. He's in deep trouble.

baobab from Cambridge, United States

that looks scary... though bees are not super-likely to sting since when they do they lose their lives (wasps have no such hesitation)

6 Oct 2008 9:30pm

@baobab: Exactly! :) No one got stung during the presentation and it almost never happens when they do it at the Bee Centre.
Thank you for visiting!

JJ from Jersey City, United States
